A small, modern hospital has been built by a Swiss foundation called the Nicole Niquile Foundation near the airstrip in the village of Lukla, which is the gateway to the Mount Everest region. The hospital treats everyone from westerners suffering from altitude sickness to local people from the surrounding villages.
